Foreclosure (A True Story)

"Foreclosure" (A True Story)

The Art Dealer's house--
The biggest, oldest house in Oakland,
Or the oldest big house,
Or the biggest old house--
Was full of those Hanson sculptures,
Photorealistic, life-size, entirely convincing sculptures of men and women,
Unsettling enough in a gallery,
Worse by far in a home, where they'd be easy to mistake.
You walk into the living room:
"Oh, hello there, sir--do excuse me."

The bank will have it soon enough,
But he's good at dragging his feet--
Five years, it might be--
Twenty-sixteen, and I'm sorry for the man who drills out the lock.
The sculptures will be covered by dust,
Scare the Hell from him.

Peas Out.
