u made a good choice on that brown coat.
i am thinking about trying to "do" art.
besides handling highlights better, another advantage film has over digital is that film cameras (manual ones, at least) can get wet with little consequence. it's best to avoid getting SLRs wet, of course, but water won't damage them like it will DSLRs. the film itself is impervious to water...it better be, since developing it involves various aqueous chemical treatments.
drove to pacifica. walked along a dock taking black-and-white pictures of fishermen in the fucking pouring rain. i just carried a cloth to wipe down the lens constantly. fishermen are good subjects for manual focus because they have to watch their poles and can't run around and fuck up my focus.
thinking of doing themes. like "fisherman at the dock," "people waiting for the fucking calTRAIN", "people dining outdoors", "doormen standing outside clubs".
plz give me advice based upon your intimate knowledge of the art world.
was chased by a 40-year-old mexican fisherman at pacifica. so far i have been harassed by white, black, and mexican men. woo diversity. the mexican shouted "this is america!" while chasing me, which is ironic, because it's the first amendment that protects one's right to take photographs in public.
i've realized something: civil rights require good laws but also a culture in which laws are respected. it's good that laws don't trample on photographers, but it's a problem that we live in a culture that supports vigilantism and the use of intimidation rather than legislation.
